Job Title: Mentor

Location: Central New York

Qualifications: One year experience working with at-risk or special needs youth. High School Diploma or GED required. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. Reliable transportation a must. Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license, meet agency-driving standards and have a familiarity of the Syracuse community.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate professionalism, patience and diligence. Must have excellent communication skills and be culturally competent. Ability to relate to youth in assisting them to become successful and in promoting change is essential. Must be computer literate with a proficiency in database management and Excel. Must have the ability to work independently, and work collaboratively with the mentorship team to provide quality services.


Criminal background and DMV check will be done.

Description: Part time position (20 hours a week) mentoring children who are presently involved in the Onondaga County Juvenile Justice System.

Duties include managing a caseload of juveniles by providing support, logistical remedies, transitional guidance and recreational participation. Mentor will be liaison for the child with other agencies and institutions. Will be required to provide home, school, and placements visits. Position reports to Save the Kids Director of Mentoring, Program Chair and Board of Directors. Minority applicants encouraged to apply. Please respond to this ad via email.
